地理的表示(GI)保護制度は、地域で長年育まれた特別な生産方法によって、高い品質や評価を獲得している農林水産物・食品の名称を品質の基準とともに国に登録し、知的財産として保護するものです。今回、地理的表示（GI）として登録されたのは、三島馬鈴薯、下関ふく、能登志賀ころ柿、十勝川西長いもの計４品目です。
農林水産省は１２日、地域の特産品の品質に国がお墨付きを与える「地理的表示（ＧＩ）保護制度」の対象に、山口県下関市と北九州市門司区の「下関ふく」など４品目を新たに登録した。水産物の登録は初めて。２０１５年に始まったこの制度に基づく登録産品は１５道県の計２１品目となった。
商標法条約（Trademark Law Treaty）に中米のグアテマラ共和国が2016年9月12日に加入しております。商標法条約が効力を発揮するのは、2016年12月12日からとなります。

On October 6, 2016, the Government of Brunei Darussalam deposited with the Director General of WIPO its instrument of accession to the Madrid Protocol for the International Registration of Marks. Its accession makes Brunei the 98th member of the Madrid System. The Protocol will enter into force with respect to Brunei Darussalam on January 6, 2017.
