日英両政府が近く署名する経済連携協定（ＥＰＡ）に、不正な商標出願の排除措置など高水準の知的財産保護ルールが盛り込まれたことが２１日、分かった。製品や包装などのデザインを保護する意匠権の存続期間は、日本と欧州連合（ＥＵ）の取り決めを上回る２５年間に設定。日本企業はブランドやデザインなどの悪用に対処しやすくなり、海外展開の追い風となりそうだ。
