「アヲハタ」はジャム、スプレッドなど有力ブランドとして知られるが、これまでアヲハタ創業時の株主で現在の第2位の大株主である中島董商店が商標権を保有してブランドの企画・管理を行っていた。このため、中島董商店とアヲハタの親会社であるキユーピーとの当該商標の使用許諾契約に基づき、キユーピーから商標使用が再許諾される形となっていた。ブランドの商標権取得後はジャム類に限らず、新たな商品領域でも「アヲハタ」を展開し、収益力向上を目指す。商標権の取得価額は21億円。取得予定日は2018年12月3日。

特許庁は商標の審査に民間の弁理士などを活用する。2021年度までに60人程度の調査部隊を組織し、審査に必要な報告書作成などを委託する。デザイン分野を重視する企業が増え、商標の出願件数が大幅に増加。出願から登録までにかかる時間が5年前の1.5倍になっており、今後も増加が見込まれるため審査体制を強化する。
