Canada is all set to release the Madrid e-filing service to its trademark community, on the same day the Madrid System comes into effect.On June 17, 2019, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) will be the first in the history of the Madrid Protocol to invite trademark applicants to use Madrid e-filing for their international trademark applications from day one.

農林水産省は6月14日、「大栄西瓜」、「津南の雪下にんじん」、「善通寺産四角スイカ」の3点を新たに地理的表示（ＧＩ）として登録したと発表した。鳥取県の「大栄西瓜」はＪＡ鳥取中央が登録を取得した。交配後、約48日ごろまで完熟させたスイカ。形状、品質にバラツキが少なく、安定した品質・供給ができるスイカとして高い評価を得ている。

As of Monday, June 17, brand owners filing trademark applications will be paying more, as the amended Trade-marks Act and the new Trademarks Regulations come into force.At present, to file a trademark application, “regardless of the number of goods and services, regardless of the number of classes,” the fee is $250, says Janet Fuhrer of Ridout & Maybee LLP in Ottawa. As of Monday, she says, the base fee will be $330 for one class of goods and services and $100 for each additional class of services.
